🦋 Why I think Threads will takeover Twitter (And why I may be wrong)

0 to 100 million in 5 days! In this newsletter, let's take a look at Threads, the new social media platform by Meta.

Hey — It's Pankaj, your fellow marketing fan.

This is the 7th edition of The Checkout Experience!

I didn’t get time to write the usual 3-2-1-1 newsletter last weekend. So here’s my opinion on something that’s been on the news lately.

The THREADS app.

This app was created by Instagram as a way to compete with Twitter.

It has reached 100 million users in just 5 days, making it the fastest-growing app in history.

To put things into perspective, ChatGPT, which was the fastest-growing app before Threads, took 60 days to reach 100 million users.

Why I think that Threads will take over Twitter:

1 — It’s closely connected with Instagram

One thing that frustrates many people is how unconnected Twitter and Instagram feel like.

People often share their Tweets on Instagram using screenshots.

Threads fixed this problem once and for all. It’s closely linked to your IG account.

In fact, it’s (almost) the same account.

  • You can share your threads directly on IG stories and posts;

  • Or find someone on IG from their threads profile, and vice-versa.

It feels like a natural extension of Instagram, not just another social media platform.

2 — It’s focused on conversations more than analytics.

Just have a look at this side-by-side comparison of both apps’ User Interfaces.

Notice how Tweets have so many things in focus? It looks kind of crowded.

Whereas, in a Thread, the conversation is the main focus and everything else is secondary.

3 — The Fediverse.
